Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 400 mg
- Oral solution: 200-400 mg/5 mL
Adult Dosing
- UTI: 400 mg q24h for 10-14 days
- Acute pyelonephritis: 400 mg q24h for 14 days
- Prostatitis: 400 mg q24h for 28 days
- Gonorrhea: 400 mg single dose
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for children under 18 years
- No established pediatric dosing
Indications
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
- Complicated urinary tract infections
- Acute pyelonephritis
- Chronic bacterial prostatitis
- Uncomplicated gonorrhea
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV
- Interferes with DNA replication and transcription
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to quinolones or any component of the formulation
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Children under 18 years

- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Abdominal pain
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Photosensitivity
Drug Interactions
- Theophylline: increased theophylline levels
- Warfarin: increased anticoagulant effect
- Cimetidine: decreased lomefloxacin absorption
- Magnesium or aluminum antacids: decreased lomefloxacin absorption
