anidulafungin
J02AX06
Forms & Strengths
- Lyophilized powder for injection: 50 mg/vial
- Lyophilized powder for injection: 100 mg/vial
Adult Dosing
- Candidemia and other Candida infections: Loading dose of 200 mg on day 1, then 100 mg IV once daily thereafter
- Esophageal candidiasis: Loading dose of 100 mg on day 1, then 50 mg IV once daily thereafter
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients (<18 years) have not been established
- Not routinely recommended for pediatric use
Indications
- Treatment of candidemia and other Candida infections (intra-abdominal abscess and peritonitis)
- Treatment of esophageal candidiasis
Mechanism of Action
- Echinocandin antifungal agent
- Inhibits 1,3-beta-D-glucan synthase, an essential enzyme for fungal cell wall synthesis
- Results in osmotic instability and cell lysis
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to anidulafungin, other echinocandins, or any component of the formulation
Adverse Reactions
- Diarrhea
- Hypokalemia
- Pyrexia
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Elevated hepatic enzymes (ALT, AST, alkaline phosphatase)
- Infusion-related reactions (histamine-mediated symptoms including rash, urticaria, flushing, pruritus)
Drug Interactions
- Does not undergo hepatic cytochrome P450 metabolism; low potential for CYP-mediated drug interactions
- Tacrolimus: AUC of tacrolimus is slightly increased, but no dosage adjustment is required
- Cyclosporine: No clinically significant pharmacokinetic interaction observed
Curated Content: Needs Vetting Before Put to Clinical Use
