Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 250mg, 500mg, 1000mg
- Oral suspension: 250mg/5ml
Adult Dosing
- Typical dose: 500-1000mg daily
- Maximum dose: 2g daily
- For tuberculosis: 500-1000mg daily
Pediatric Dosing
- Typical dose: 10-20mg/kg daily
- For children > 12 years: same as adult dose
Indications
- Treatment of tuberculosis
- Prophylaxis of tuberculosis
- Treatment of other mycobacterial infections
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits mycolic acid biosynthesis
- Disrupts cell wall synthesis
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity
- Severe liver disease
Adverse Reactions
- Hepatotoxicity
- Gastrointestinal upset
- Neurotoxicity
Drug Interactions
- Aluminum-containing antacids decrease absorption
- Rifampicin increases hepatotoxicity risk
