Forms & Strengths

Oral tablets: 125 mg
Oral tablets: 60 mg

Adult Dosing

Viral infections and influenza prophylaxis: 125 mg to 250 mg on the first day, then 125 mg every 48 hours
Standard treatment course typically consists of 6 to 10 tablets per course

Pediatric Dosing

Safety and efficacy not well established in young children
Use in adolescents (over 7 years) sometimes authorized nationally at reduced doses (e.g., 60 mg) per local protocols

Indications

Prevention and treatment of influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections
Treatment of viral hepatitis A, B, and C (in specific regional jurisdictions)
Herpes virus infections and cytomegalovirus infections (adjunctive)

Mechanism of Action

Low-molecular-weight synthetic interferon inducer
Stimulates the synthesis of interferons (alpha, beta, and gamma) in leukocytes, intestinal cells, hepatocytes, and brain tissue
Modulates cellular and humoral immunity to inhibit viral replication

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to tilorone or any excipients
Pregnancy and lactation
Severe hepatic impairment

Adverse Reactions

Transient mild to moderate dyspepsia
Allergic skin reactions (rash, pruritus)
Chills and mild transient pyrexia

Drug Interactions

No clinically significant pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions commonly reported
Can be safely co-administered with standard antibiotics and symptomatic therapies for viral infections
