Adult Dosing
- 250-500mg twice daily
- adjust dose based on renal function
Pediatric Dosing
- not established for children under 12 years
- 12-17 years: 250mg twice daily
Indications
- treatment of HIV-1 infection
- post-exposure prophylaxis
- pre-exposure prophylaxis
Mechanism of Action
- HIV-1 integrase strand transfer inhibitor
- prevents integration of viral DNA into host genome
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to raltegravir
- co-administration with strong UGT1A1 inhibitors
Adverse Reactions
- diarrhea
- insomnia
- nausea
- headache
- abdominal pain
Drug Interactions
- atazanavir: increase raltegravir dose
- rifampin: increase raltegravir dose
- tipranavir/ritonavir: avoid co-administration
