Forms & Strengths
- Intravenous infusion: 200 mg/1.33 mL (150 mg/mL) single-dose vial
Adult Dosing
- Loading dose: 2,000 mg IV infusion once
- Maintenance dose: 800 mg IV infusion every 2 weeks
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients (<18 years)
Indications
- Treatment of multidrug-resistant HIV-1 infection in heavily treatment-experienced adults failing their current antiretroviral regimen
Mechanism of Action
- Recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody that binds to domain 2 of CD4 T-cell receptors
- Sterically blocks HIV-1 gp120 from interacting with coreceptors without causing CD4 cell depletion or immunosuppression
- Prevents viral entry and subsequent fusion into host cells
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to ibalizumab or any of its excipients
Adverse Reactions
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Rash
- Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS)
Drug Interactions
- No formal pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions expected as ibalizumab is a monoclonal antibody degraded by proteolytic enzymes
- Used in combination with other antiretroviral agents based on baseline resistance testing
