Forms & Strengths
- injection solution 100 IU/mL
- injection solution 200 IU/mL
Adult Dosing
- 1 mL (100 IU) IM immediately after exposure
- repeat doses at 1-2 month intervals for certain high-risk groups
Pediatric Dosing
- 0.5 mL (50 IU) IM for infants under 1 year of age immediately after birth
- 1 mL (100 IU) IM for children over 1 year of age immediately after exposure
Indications
- post-exposure prophylaxis of hepatitis B
- pre-exposure prophylaxis for individuals at high risk of hepatitis B infection
- liver transplant patients
Mechanism of Action
- passive immunization with antibodies against hepatitis B surface antigen
- neutralization of hepatitis B virus
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to hepatitis B immunoglobulin or other immunoglobulins
- severe thrombocytopenia or coagulation disorders
Adverse Reactions
- pain at injection site
- malaise
- fatigue
- headache
- anaphylactic reactions
Drug Interactions
- live virus vaccines (possible interference with immune response)
- other immunoglobulins (potential for altered immune response)
