Forms & Strengths
- 0.5 mL suspension for injection
- contains 10 mcg Haemophilus influenzae type B
- combined with diphtheria and tetanus toxoids
- and pertussis antigens
Adult Dosing
- not indicated for use in adults
- booster dose may be given to adults with certain immune conditions
Pediatric Dosing
- 2, 4, 6 months of age: 0.5 mL IM
- 12-18 months of age: 0.5 mL IM booster
- catch-up vaccination: consult current guidelines
Indications
- active immunization against diphtheria
- tetanus
- pertussis
- and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) disease
- prevention of invasive Hib disease
Mechanism of Action
- stimulates active immunity against diphtheria toxin
- tetanus toxin
- pertussis toxin
- and Haemophilus influenzae type b capsular polysaccharide
Contraindications
- severe allergic reaction to vaccine components
- encephalopathy within 7 days of previous pertussis vaccine
- progressive neurological disorder
Adverse Reactions
- pain
- redness
- swelling at injection site
- fever
- vomiting
- irritability
- allergic reactions
Drug Interactions
- immune globulin: do not administer within 2 weeks
- other vaccines: consult current guidelines for concomitant use
