Forms & Strengths
- injectable solution 5 mg/mL
Adult Dosing
- 7-8 mg/m² IV over 2 hours for 7 days in combination with chemotherapy
- 7 mg/m²/day for 7 days via continuous IV infusion
Pediatric Dosing
- no established pediatric dosing recommendations
Indications
- treatment of certain types of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in combination with fludarabine and cyclophosphamide
Mechanism of Action
- antisense oligonucleotide that targets the BCL-2 messenger RNA
- inhibits BCL-2 protein production, inducing apoptosis in cancer cells
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to oblimersen or any component of the formulation
Adverse Reactions
- fever
- nausea
- fatigue
- anemia
- leukopenia
- thrombocytopenia
- hypotension
- infusion-related reactions
Drug Interactions
- concomitant use of other myelosuppressive agents may increase the risk of hematologic toxicity
