L03AC01
Forms & Strengths
- Injectable powder for reconstitution: 22 million international units (IU) per vial
Adult Dosing
- Metastatic renal cell carcinoma: 600,000 IU/kg (0.037 mg/kg) IV bolus every 8 hours for up to 14 doses
- Repeat course: After 9 days of rest, administer a second course of up to 14 doses
Pediatric Dosing

Mechanism of Action
- Recombinant human interleukin-2 (IL-2) that binds to IL-2 receptors on lymphocytes
- Enhances lymphocyte mitogenesis and cell-mediated cytotoxicity
- Induces lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells and natural killer (NK) cell activity
Contraindications

- Normal organ function impairment indicated by abnormal thallium stress test or pulmonary function tests
- Organ allograft recipients
- Untreated or active brain metastases
- ECOG performance score >= 2
Adverse Reactions
- Capillary leak syndrome (hypotension, edema, effusions)
- Cardiovascular toxicity (arrhythmias, myocardial ischemia, tachycardia)
- Central nervous system toxicity (confusion, somnolence, psychosis, coma)
- Gastrointestinal toxicity (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, GI bleeding)
- Hematologic toxicity (anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia)
- Infection (increased risk of severe bacterial infections due to suppressed immunity)
- Pulmonary toxicity (dyspnea, pulmonary congestion, pleural effusion)
Drug Interactions
- Antihypertensive agents: May potentiate hypotension
- Cardiotoxic, hepatotoxic, nephrotoxic, or myelotoxic agents: May increase cumulative toxicity
- Corticosteroids and immunosuppressants: May antagonize the therapeutic efficacy of aldesleukin
- Doxorubicin: Increased risk of cardiac toxicity
Curated Content: Needs Vetting Before Put to Clinical Use
