immunocyanin
L03AX10
Forms & Strengths
- Intravesical instillation: 1 mg, 2 mg, and 2.5 mg lyophilized powder in vials
Adult Dosing
- Bladder instillation: 1 to 2 mg dissolved in physiological saline administered intravesically
- Frequency and maintenance protocols vary according to clinical trial designs for superficial bladder carcinoma prophylaxis
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric populations not established
Indications
- Prophylaxis of recurrence in superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder
Mechanism of Action
- Keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH)-derived immunostimulant
- Acts as a neoantigen stimulating both cell-mediated and humoral immune responses
- Induces cross-reactivity with tumor-associated antigens to trigger cytotoxic T-cell destruction of cancer cells
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to immunocyanin or keyhole limpet hemocyanin
- Acute urinary tract infections
- Severe immunosuppression
Adverse Reactions
- Local: Mild to moderate dysuria, pollakiuria, hematuria, cystitis
- Systemic: Flu-like symptoms, mild fever, chills, fatigue, localized skin reactions at previous exposure sites
Drug Interactions
- Concomitant systemic immunosuppressants (e.g., corticosteroids, chemotherapy) may diminish the therapeutic immune response
- No major pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions anticipated due to local intravesical administration
