Forms & Strengths
- 15mg/ml solution for injection (IM)
- 10mg/ml solution for injection (IM)
Adult Dosing
- 15mg IM weekly for 12 weeks, with optional additional 12-week course
- Dosing may be repeated after a 12-week treatment-free interval
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients not established
Indications
- Moderate to severe chronic plaque psoriasis in adults
- Psoriatic arthritis
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibits T-cell activation by binding to CD2 receptor
- Depletes Memory T-cells
- Modulates immune response
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to alefacept or any component
- Immunosuppression (e.g. HIV infection, lymphoma)
Adverse Reactions
- Infections (e.g. upper respiratory tract, urinary tract)
- Malignancies (e.g. lymphoma, skin cancer)
- CD4+ T-cell count decreased
- Thrombocytopenia
- Anaphylaxis
- Serum sickness
Drug Interactions
- Live vaccines: avoid use
- Immunosuppressants: avoid concomitant use
- Phototherapy: monitor for additive psoralen effects
