Forms & Strengths
- 150mg/mL solution for injection in 2.4mL prefilled syringe
- 150mg/1.14mL solution for injection in 2mL prefilled syringe
Adult Dosing
- 200mg subcutaneous injection every 2 weeks
- 150mg subcutaneous injection every 2 weeks for patients with moderate to severe renal impairment or thunderstorm asthma
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established for pediatric patients
- Clinical trials enrolling pediatric patients with systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis ongoing
Indications
- Moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis in adults who have had an inadequate response or are intolerant to one or more disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs
- Polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis in patients 2 years of age and older
Mechanism of Action
- Interleukin-6 receptor antagonist
- Binds to both soluble and membrane-bound IL-6 receptors
- Blocks IL-6 mediated signaling
Contraindications
- Active tuberculosis
- Serious infections
- Hypersensitivity to sarilumab or excipients
Adverse Reactions
- Neutropenia
- Increased liver enzymes
- Injection site reactions
- Gastrointestinal perforation
- Hypersensitivity reactions
Drug Interactions
- Concomitant use with biologic DMARDs or TNF antagonists not recommended
- Increased risk of adverse reactions when used with immunosuppressants
- Live vaccines not recommended during treatment
