Adult Dosing
- Osteoarthritis: 250-500mg tid
- Rheumatoid arthritis: 250-500mg tid
- Ankylosing spondylitis: 250-500mg tid
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for children under 12 years
- 12-18 years: same as adult dosing
Indications
- Treatment of osteoarthritis
- Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis
- Treatment of ankylosing spondylitis
Mechanism of Action
- Non-selective COX inhibitor
- Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
- Reduces inflammation, pain, and fever
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to niflumic acid
- Active peptic ulcer disease
- Severe renal impairment
Adverse Reactions
- Gastrointestinal upset
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
- Headache, dizziness, rash
Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of bleeding with anticoagulants
- Reduced effect of diuretics, antihypertensives
- Increased risk of nephrotoxicity with aminoglycosides
