Forms & Strengths
- Capsules: 200mg
- Tablets: 200mg, 400mg
Adult Dosing
- Osteoarthritis: 200-400mg orally every 8-12 hours
- Rheumatoid arthritis: 200-400mg orally every 8-12 hours
- Renal impairment: dose adjustment may be necessary
Pediatric Dosing
- Not established for children under 16 years
- Use with caution in patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
Indications
- Treatment of osteoarthritis
- Treatment of rheumatoid arthritis
- Relief of pain and inflammation
Mechanism of Action
- Acts as an inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs)
- Reduces inflammation and slows cartilage breakdown
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to oxaceprol or its excipients
- Active peptic ulcer disease
- Severe renal insufficiency
Adverse Reactions
- Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea)
- Headache, dizziness, and fatigue
- Allergic reactions (rash, pruritus, urticaria)
Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of bleeding with anticoagulants
- Concomitant use with diuretics may increase risk of renal impairment
- Interactions with salicylates and other NSAIDs may increase risk of gastrointestinal toxicity
