Forms & Strengths
- Cream 5%
- Gel 10%
- Patch 20mg
- Solution 25%
Adult Dosing
- Apply 5% cream 2-3 times daily
- Apply 10% gel 2-3 times daily
- One 20mg patch per day
- Use 25% solution as directed by physician
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for children under 12 years
- For children 12-18, use adult dosing with caution
Indications
- Relief of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis
- Temporary relief of minor aches and pains
- Reduction of swelling and pain in musculoskeletal disorders
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2)
- Reducing prostaglandin synthesis
- Blocking pain pathways
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to active or inactive ingredients
- Active peptic ulcers or gastrointestinal bleeding
- Pregnancy (third trimester)
Adverse Reactions
- Skin irritation or redness
- Gastrointestinal upset or nausea
- Headache or dizziness
- Allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
Drug Interactions
- Concomitant use with anticoagulants or antiplatelets
- Interaction with corticosteroids and lithium
- Cautious use with ACE inhibitors or diuretics
