Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 10mg dihydrocodeine, 500mg acetylsalicylic acid
- Tablets: 20mg dihydrocodeine, 500mg acetylsalicylic acid
Adult Dosing
- 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours as needed, not to exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for children under 12 years of age
Indications
- Relief of moderate to severe pain
- Treatment of headache, including migraine and tension headache
Mechanism of Action
- Dihydrocodeine: opioid agonist, binds to mu-receptors in the CNS, producing analgesia
- Acetylsalicylic acid: inhibits COX-1 and COX-2, reducing prostaglandin synthesis and relieving pain
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to dihydrocodeine, acetylsalicylic acid, or other NSAIDs
- Bleeding disorders, such as hemophilia
- Peptic ulcer disease, or history of peptic ulcer disease
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, constipation, headache
- Respiratory depression, anaphylaxis, urticaria, bronchospasm
Drug Interactions
- Concomitant use with other CNS depressants may increase risk of respiratory depression
- Concomitant use with warfarin may increase risk of bleeding
- Concomitant use with MAOIs may increase risk of serotonin syndrome
