Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 325mg, 650mg
- Solution: 100mg/mL, 500mg/5mL
- Suppository: 250mg, 500mg, 750mg, 1000mg
Adult Dosing
- Rheumatoid arthritis: 3-6 grams per day
- Osteoarthritis: 2.5-4 grams per day
- Fever: 2-4 grams per day
- Pain relief: 650-1300mg every 4-6 hours
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended in children under 12 years
- 12 years and older: use adult dosing with caution

Mechanism of Action
- Cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) inhibition
- Prostaglandin synthesis inhibition
- Interference with inflammatory mediator production
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to salicylates
- Active peptic ulcer disease
- Bleeding disorders
- Asthma with nasal polyps and aspirin intolerance
- Children under 12 years with viral infections
Adverse Reactions
- Gastrointestinal irritation
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
- Ringing in the ears
- Hearing loss
- Dizziness
- Headache
Drug Interactions
- Warfarin: increased anticoagulant effect
- Methotrexate: increased toxicity
- Glucocorticoids: increased risk of gastrointestinal irritation
- Diuretics: decreased salicylate excretion
- Aspirin: additive effect and increased toxicity
