Forms & Strengths
- 100mg tablets
- 500mg tablets
- 1000mg powder for injection
Adult Dosing
- 500-1000mg every 4-6 hours
- Maximum daily dose: 4000mg
- Parenteral use: 1000mg slowly IV or IM
Pediatric Dosing
- 20-30mg/kg/day divided into 3-4 doses
- Not recommended under 3 months
- Use with caution in children under 16 years
Indications
- Treatment of severe pain
- Fever reduction
- Inflammatory conditions
Mechanism of Action
- Prodrug converted to active metabolite
- Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
- Blocks pain impulses in CNS
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to metamizole
- Asthma
- Porphyria
- G6PD deficiency
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea and vomiting
- Headache and dizziness
- Allergic reactions
- Agranulocytosis
Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of agranulocytosis with antibiotics
- Enhanced sedation with CNS depressants
- Increased risk of seizures with tramadol
