Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 100mg, 200mg
- Injectable solution: 100mg/mL
Adult Dosing
- Oral: 100-200mg every 4-6 hours as needed
- IM/IV: 100mg every 4-6 hours as needed
Pediatric Dosing
- Oral: 1-2mg/kg every 4-6 hours as needed
- IM/IV: 1mg/kg every 4-6 hours as needed, not to exceed 100mg/dose
Indications
- Treatment of mild to moderate pain
- Relief of headache, including migraine and tension headache
- Reduction of fever
Mechanism of Action
- Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis
- CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM: indirect agonist at opioid receptors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to iprazochrome or other pyrazolone derivatives
- Severe hepatic or renal impairment
- Third trimester of pregnancy
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
- Headache, dizziness, and drowsiness
- Abdominal pain, allergic reactions, and agranulocytosis (rare)
Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of bleeding with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin)
- Enhanced sedation with CNS depressants (e.g., benzodiazepines, opioids)
- Reduced effectiveness with barbiturates and other enzyme inducers
