Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 0.5mg
- Scored tablets for oral administration
Adult Dosing
- Initial dose: 0.5mg weekly, increased as needed and tolerated to 1-2mg twice weekly
- Max dose: 3mg/week in 2 divided doses
Pediatric Dosing
- Not established for use in pediatric patients
Indications
- Hyperprolactinemia
- Acromegaly
Mechanism of Action
- Dopamine receptor agonist
- Binds to dopamine D2 receptors in pituitary
Contraindications
- Uncontrolled hypertension
- Pregnancy, especially in patients with a history of pregnancy-induced hypertension
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nasal congestion
- Influenza-like symptoms
