Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 50mg
- Injectable: 25mg/mL, 50mg/mL
- Suppositories: 100mg, 200mg
Adult Dosing
- Oral: 50-100mg, 2-3 times a day
- IM/IV: 25-50mg, 2-3 times a day
- Rectal: 100-200mg, 1-2 times a day
Pediatric Dosing
- Oral: 1-2mg/kg/day, in 2-3 divided doses
- IM/IV: 0.5-1mg/kg/dose, every 4-6 hours
- Not recommended for children under 2 years
Indications
- Anxiety
- Nausea and vomiting
- Psychotic disorders
- Insomnia
Mechanism of Action
- Blocks dopamine receptors in the brain
- Anticholinergic effects
- Alpha-adrenergic blockade
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to phenothiazines
- Comatose state
- Severe CNS depression
- Bone marrow depression
Adverse Reactions
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Orthostatic hypotension
- Extrapyramidal symptoms
Drug Interactions
- Enhanced sedation with other CNS depressants
- Interference with antihypertensive therapy
- Increased risk of extrapyramidal symptoms with antipsychotics
