Forms & Strengths
- 0.5mg tablet
- 1mg tablet
- 2mg tablet
Adult Dosing
- 0.5mg to 2mg, 2 to 3 times daily for anxiety
- 1mg to 2mg, 2 to 3 times daily for insomnia
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for children under 12 years
- 0.25mg to 0.5mg, 2 to 3 times daily for children over 12 years, under close monitoring
Indications
- Anxiety disorders
- Insomnia
- Panic disorders
Mechanism of Action
- GABA_A receptor agonist
- Enhances inhibitory neurotransmission
- Produces anxiolytic, sedative, and hypnotic effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to etizolam or benzodiazepines
- Myasthenia gravis
- Acute angle-closure glaucoma
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Adverse Reactions
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Ataxia
- Anterograde amnesia
Drug Interactions
- CNS depressants (alcohol, opioids, sedatives)
- Inhibitors of CYP3A4 (ketoconazole, itraconazole)
- Inducers of CYP3A4 (rifampicin, carbamazepine)
