Forms & Strengths
- Tablets: 200mg, 400mg
- Capsules: 200mg, 400mg
Adult Dosing
- Insomnia: 200-400mg at bedtime
- Anxiety: 200-400mg tid
Pediatric Dosing
- Not recommended for children under 12 years
- 12-18 years: 100-200mg at bedtime or tid
Indications
- Short-term treatment of insomnia
- Anxiety and tension
- Muscle relaxation
Mechanism of Action
- Central nervous system depressant
- Enhances GABA activity
- Interacts with benzodiazepine receptors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to mephenoxalone
- Pregnancy and lactation
- Severe respiratory depression
- Narrow-angle glaucoma
Adverse Reactions
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Nausea and vomiting
- Confusion and ataxia
Drug Interactions
- Alcohol and CNS depressants: additive sedative effects
- Antihistamines: enhanced sedative effects
- Theophylline: decreased theophylline clearance
