alaproclate
N06AB07
Forms & Strengths
- Investigational compound
- Not commercially available as an FDA-approved drug
- Historically studied in oral formulations (capsules/tablets)
Adult Dosing
- No standard clinical adult dosing established
- Evaluated in historical clinical trials for depression at variable oral doses ranging from 100 mg to 400 mg daily
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients
- No standard pediatric dosing guidelines available
Indications
- Investigated primarily as an antidepressant
- Studied experimentally for potential effects on Alzheimer's disease and other central nervous system disorders
- Not currently indicated for any medical condition
Mechanism of Action
- Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI)
- Inhibits the neuronal reuptake of serotonin, increasing its concentration in the synaptic cleft
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to alaproclate or any of its components
- Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) due to the risk of serotonin syndrome
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea and gastrointestinal upset
- Dizziness and lightheadedness
- Insomnia or drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Headache
Drug Interactions
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs): Risk of severe serotonin syndrome, hypertensive crisis, and hyperthermia
- Other serotonergic agents (SSRIs, SNRIs, triptans, tricyclic antidepressants): Increased risk of additive serotonergic adverse effects
- CNS depressants: Potential for enhanced sedation and psychomotor impairment
