Forms & Strengths
- Oral capsules 50 mg
- Oral tablets 50 mg
Adult Dosing
- Initial dose: 50 mg to 100 mg orally daily in divided doses
- Maintenance dose: 150 mg to 300 mg orally daily, titrated based on clinical response
- Maximum daily dose: 300 mg orally
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years have not been established
Indications
- Major depressive disorder
- Anxiety disorders with depressive symptoms
Mechanism of Action
- Atypical antidepressant that inhibits the neuronal reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin
- Exhibits mild anticholinergic and antihistaminic properties
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to oxaflozane or any component of the formulation
- Concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuation
- Acute recovery phase following myocardial infarction
- Severe hepatic impairment
Adverse Reactions
- Drowsiness and sedation
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Blurred vision
- Orthostatic hypotension
- Urinary retention
- Weight gain
- Tachycardia
Drug Interactions
- Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs): risk of severe hypertensive crisis and serotonin syndrome
- Central nervous system (CNS) depressants and alcohol: potentiates sedation and respiratory depression
- Antihypertensive agents: risk of enhanced hypotensive effects
- Anticholinergic drugs: additive anticholinergic adverse effects such as urinary retention and severe dry mouth
