Forms & Strengths
- Intravenous infusion: 500 mg/5 mL (100 mg/mL) single-dose vial
- Intravenous infusion: 1000 mg/10 mL (100 mg/mL) single-dose vial
Adult Dosing
- 10 mg/kg body weight administered as an intravenous infusion over approximately one hour
- Administered once every two weeks
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established
Indications
- Treatment of Alzheimer's disease
- Treatment is initiated in patients with mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia stage of disease
Mechanism of Action
- Humanized immunoglobulin gamma 1 (IgG1) monoclonal antibody directed against aggregated forms of beta-amyloid
- Reduces amyloid-beta plaques in the brain
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to lecanemab-irmb or any of its excipients
Adverse Reactions
- Infusion-related reactions (fever, flu-like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, changes in blood pressure)
- Amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA-E with edema/effusion, ARIA-H with microhemorrhage and superficial siderosis)
- Headache
- Superficial siderosis of the central nervous system
Drug Interactions
- Increased risk of intracerebral hemorrhage with concomitant use of antithrombotic medications (e.g., warfarin, heparin)
- Caution advised when considering the use of anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents
