Forms & Strengths
- Nasal spray: 4% (40 mg/mL)
Adult Dosing
- 1 spray in each nostril 2 to 4 times daily during the allergy season
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 6 years of age have not been established
- Children 6 years and older: 1 spray in each nostril 2 to 4 times daily
Indications
- Treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis
- Treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis
Mechanism of Action
- Mast cell stabilizer that inhibits the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators from mast cells
- Reduces allergic inflammatory response in the nasal mucosa
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to spaglumic acid or any component of the formulation
Adverse Reactions
- Transient nasal burning or stinging
- Nasal dryness
- Sneezing
- Unpleasant taste
- Epistaxis (rare)
Drug Interactions
- No clinically significant pharmacokinetic drug interactions reported
- May be used concomitantly with other intranasal or systemic anti-allergy medications
