Forms & Strengths
- Tablets 10 mg
- Oral solution 1 mg/mL
Adult Dosing
- 10 mg orally 3‑4 times daily as needed for allergic symptoms
- Maximum 40 mg/day
Pediatric Dosing
- 5 mg orally 2‑3 times daily for children 6‑12 years
- Maximum 15 mg/day; avoid use in children <6 years
Indications
- Allergic rhinitis
- Urticaria and pruritus
- Allergic conjunctivitis
- Mild allergic dermatitis
Mechanism of Action
- Competitive antagonism of peripheral H1‑histamine receptors
- Exerts anticholinergic and sedative effects typical of first‑generation antihistamines
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to bamipine or other first‑generation antihistamines
- Severe hepatic or renal impairment
- Narrow‑angle glaucoma or marked prostatic hypertrophy
- Pregnancy and lactation (use only if benefit outweighs risk)
Adverse Reactions
- Sedation and somnolence
- Dry mouth, xerostomia
- Constipation or urinary retention
- Blurred vision
- Dizziness
- Tachycardia
- Rare: hepatic enzyme elevation
Drug Interactions
- Additive CNS depression with alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or other sedatives
- Enhanced anticholinergic burden with tricyclic antidepressants, antipsychotics, or antispasmodics
- May potentiate hypotensive effect of antihypertensives
- Avoid concomitant use with MAO inhibitors due to possible increased side‑effects
