Forms & Strengths
- Ophthalmic solution 0.3% (3 mg/mL)
Adult Dosing
- Bacterial conjunctivitis: Instill 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 2 to 4 hours for the first 2 days, then 4 times daily for up to 5 additional days.
Pediatric Dosing
- Bacterial conjunctivitis (Patients >1 year): Instill 1 to 2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 2 to 4 hours for the first 2 days, then 4 times daily for up to 5 additional days.
Indications
- Treatment of conjunctivitis caused by susceptible strains of gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria
Mechanism of Action
- Fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ofloxacin or any component of the formulation, or other quinolones.
Adverse Reactions
- Transient ocular burning or discomfort
- Stinging
- Redness
- Ocular pruritus
- Photophobia
- Blurred vision
Drug Interactions
- No specific systemic drug interactions are expected with topical ophthalmic administration due to low systemic absorption; spacing multiple ophthalmic drops by at least 5 minutes is recommended.
