Forms & Strengths
- Ophthalmic solution 0.0015% (preservative-free single-dose dispensers)
Adult Dosing
- One drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening
- Do not exceed once daily dosing as frequent administration may decrease the intraocular pressure-lowering effect
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established
Indications
- Reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension
Mechanism of Action
- Prostaglandin F2alpha analog and selective FP prostanoid receptor agonist
- Increases uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor to reduce intraocular pressure
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to tafluprost or any component of the formulation
Adverse Reactions
- Conjunctival hyperemia
- Ocular stinging, irritation, and pruritus
- Increased iris pigmentation
- Eyelash changes (increased length, thickness, and number)
- Dry eye and ocular pain
- Vision blurred
Drug Interactions
- Paradoxical elevation of intraocular pressure reported with concurrent use of two or more topical prostaglandins
- Potential for additive hypotensive effects with systemic beta-blockers or other ocular hypotensive agents
