Forms & Strengths
- Ophthalmic solution: 0.1% (5 mL)
- Ophthalmic solution: 0.2% (2.5 mL, 5 mL)
- Ophthalmic solution: 0.7% (2.5 mL, 30.5 mL)
- Nasal spray: 66 mcg/spray (0.6%, 240 metered sprays)
Adult Dosing
- Allergic conjunctivitis (0.1%): 1 drop in affected eye(s) twice daily (approx. 6-8 hours apart)
- Allergic conjunctivitis (0.2%): 1 drop in affected eye(s) once daily
- Allergic conjunctivitis (0.7%): 1 drop in affected eye(s) once daily
- Allergic rhinitis: 2 sprays per nostril twice daily
Pediatric Dosing
- Allergic conjunctivitis (Children <2 years): Safety and efficacy not established
- Allergic conjunctivitis (Children >=2 years): 1 drop in affected eye(s) per concentration schedule (0.1% BID, 0.2% or 0.7% QD)
- Allergic rhinitis (Children <6 years): Safety and efficacy not established
- Allergic rhinitis (Children 6-11 years): 1 spray per nostril twice daily
- Allergic rhinitis (Children >=12 years): 2 sprays per nostril twice daily
Indications
- Treatment of signs and symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis
- Relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis
Mechanism of Action
- Selective histamine H1-receptor antagonist
- Inhibitor of histamine release from mast cells
- Prevents type I immediate hypersensitivity reactions and suppresses eosinophil chemotaxis
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to olopatadine or any component of the formulation
Adverse Reactions
- Headache
- Taste perversion (dysgeusia)
- Eye irritation, burning, or stinging
- Dry eye
- Asthenia
- Epistaxis (nasal spray)
- Nasal discomfort or dryness
Drug Interactions
- No clinically significant systemic pharmacokinetic drug interactions reported
- Concomitant topical ophthalmic medications should be administered at least 5 minutes apart from olopatadine
