Forms & Strengths
- Intravitreal suspension: 15 mg/0.5 mL
Adult Dosing
- Posterior juxtascleral administration: 15 mg administered every 6 months
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established
Indications
- Treatment of subfoveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to age-related macular degeneration
Mechanism of Action
- Angiogenesis inhibitor and angiostatic corticosteroid derivative that inhibits matrix metalloproteinases and endothelial cell proliferation
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to anecortave or any component of the formulation
- Active ocular or periocular infections
Adverse Reactions
- Increased intraocular pressure
- Subconjunctival hemorrhage
- Eye pain
- Visual disturbance
- Punctate keratitis
Drug Interactions
- No formal drug interaction studies have been performed due to local route of administration
- Concomitant use with other local ophthalmic therapies should be spaced by at least 15 minutes
