Forms & Strengths
- Otic solution 0.01% in oil
Adult Dosing
- Otitis externa: Instill 5 drops (approx 0.25 mL) into the affected ear canal twice daily for 7 days
Pediatric Dosing
- Pediatric patients 2 years and older: Instill 5 drops into the affected ear canal twice daily for 7 days
Indications
- Treatment of acute otitis externa due to susceptible isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Aspergillus niger
Mechanism of Action
- Synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to fluocinolone acetonide or any component of the formulation
- Perforated tympanic membrane
- Viral infections of the external canal including herpes simplex and varicella
Adverse Reactions
- Application site reactions
- Ear pruritus
- Dryness
- Hypopigmentation
- Secondary infection
Drug Interactions
- No formal drug interaction studies performed with otic formulation
- Systemic absorption is low, but concurrent use of potent CYP3A4 inhibitors may theoretically affect systemic clearance if absorbed significantly
