gadoteridol
V08CA04
Forms & Strengths
- Injectable solution 279.3 mg/mL (0.5 mmol/mL) in various vial and prefilled syringe sizes
Adult Dosing
- CNS Imaging: 0.1 mL/kg (0.1 mmol/kg) administered intravenously
- May repeat dose up to 0.2 mL/kg (0.2 mmol/kg) within 30 minutes for dynamic scans
- Max cumulative dose: 0.3 mL/kg (0.3 mmol/kg)
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric patients under 2 years of age
- Pediatric patients 2 years and older: 0.1 mL/kg (0.1 mmol/kg) intravenously
Indications
- Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain and spine in adults and pediatric patients aged 2 years and older
- Visualization of lesions with abnormal blood-brain barrier or vascularity in the CNS
Mechanism of Action
- Paramagnetic gadolinium chelate that shortens T1 and T2 relaxation times of protons in body tissues
- Enhances signal intensity (brightness) of tissues with increased vascularity or breakdown of the blood-brain barrier
Contraindications
- History of severe hypersensitivity reactions to gadoteridol or other gadolinium-based contrast agents
Adverse Reactions
- Common: Headache, nausea, injection site pain, paresthesia, dizziness
- Serious: Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis (NSF) in patients with severe renal impairment
- Serious: Hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis and cardiovascular collapse
Drug Interactions
- No formal clinical drug-drug interaction studies performed
- Increased risk of renal toxicity when administered concurrently with nephrotoxic agents
Curated Content: Needs Vetting Before Put to Clinical Use
