gadoxetic acid
V08CA10
Forms & Strengths
- Intravenous solution: 0.25 mmol/mL (181.43 mg/mL)
Adult Dosing
- Liver MRI: 0.1 mmol/kg (0.1 mL/kg) body weight administered as an intravenous injection at a rate of approximately 1 to 2 mL/sec
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients below the age of 18 years have not been established
Indications
- Indicated for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the liver to detect and characterize lesions in adults with known or suspected focal liver disease
Mechanism of Action
- Gadoxetic acid is a gadolinium-based contrast agent that shortens T1 relaxation times of protons in blood and tissue; its ethoxybenzyl moiety is selectively taken up by hepatocytes, enhancing normal liver parenchyma in the hepatobiliary phase
Contraindications
- History of severe hypersensitivity reactions to gadoxetic acid
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea
- Headache
- Injection site pain
- Pruritus
- Blood pressure increased
- Risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF) in patients with severe renal impairment
Drug Interactions
- No formal clinical drug interaction studies have been conducted
- Potential risk of enhanced renal toxicity when co-administered with nephrotoxic drugs
