perflenapent
V08DA03
Forms & Strengths
- Injectable suspension for intravenous use
- Perflenapent fluorocarbon-based ultrasound contrast agent
Adult Dosing
- Dose determined by diagnostic modality, equipment, and imaging protocol
- Administered as an intravenous injection or infusion per specific imaging guidelines
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy not established in pediatric populations
- Use in children generally not recommended unless specific clinical trial protocols apply
Indications
- Diagnostic ultrasound imaging to opacify chambers of the heart
- Enhancement of left ventricular endocardial border delineation
- Improvement of ultrasound signal-to-noise ratio in vascular and tissue imaging
Mechanism of Action
- Perflenapent microbubbles act as an ultrasound contrast agent
- Microbubbles undergo compression and expansion in an acoustic field, reflecting ultrasound waves differently than surrounding blood and tissue
- Increases echogenicity and enhances visualization of blood-tissue interfaces
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to perflenapent or any component of the formulation
- Known or suspected right-to-left, bidirectional, or transient right-to-left cardiac shunts
Adverse Reactions
- Headache
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Injection site discomfort or warmth
- Transient alterations in blood pressure
Drug Interactions
- No formal drug-drug interaction studies performed
- May temporarily interfere with certain concurrent echocardiographic diagnostic measurements
