flortaucipir (18F)
V09AX07
Forms & Strengths
- Intravenous injection: 370 MBQ/mL (10 mCi/mL) at end of synthesis
Adult Dosing
- 370 MBq (10 mCi) administered as a single intravenous bolus injection in a 1 mL to 10 mL volume
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness have not been established in pediatric patients
Indications
- Indicated for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of the brain to estimate the density and distribution of aggregated tau tangles in adult patients with cognitive impairment evaluated for Alzheimer's disease
Mechanism of Action
- Fluorine 18 (18F) flortaucipir is a radioactive diagnostic tracer that binds to aggregated tau protein (neurofibrillary tangles) in the brain, which are pathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease
Adverse Reactions
- Headache
- Injection site pain
- Increased blood pressure
Drug Interactions
- No formal drug-drug interaction studies have been performed
- Concomitant medications are not known to interfere with flortaucipir binding based on clinical pharmacology data
