technetium (99mTc) rheniumsulfide colloid
V09DB06
Forms & Strengths
- Kit for reconstitution (0.5‑2.0 mCi per vial)
- Lyophilized technetium‑99m rhenium sulfide colloid
- Sterile, pyrogen‑free injectable solution
Adult Dosing
- 0.5–1.0 mCi IV bolus for liver‑spleen scan (adult)
- Up to 2.0 mCi for detailed RES imaging if needed
Pediatric Dosing
- 0.1 mCi/kg IV (max 1.0 mCi) for children >2 kg
- Reduced activity (0.05 mCi/kg) for infants <2 kg
Indications
- Hepatobiliary (liver‑spleen) scintigraphy
- Evaluation of reticuloendothelial system function
- Detection of hepatic metastases and splenic lesions
- Assessment of splenic sequestration disorders
Mechanism of Action
- Technetium‑99m bound to rhenium sulfide forms colloidal particles
- Phagocytosed by Kupffer cells in liver and macrophages in spleen
- Gamma emission (140 keV) imaged with gamma camera
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to kit excipients
- Pregnancy unless benefit outweighs risk
- Breast‑feeding caution (avoid if possible)
Adverse Reactions
- Mild injection‑site pain or erythema
- Transient nausea or flushing
- Rare allergic reaction (urticaria, hypotension)
Drug Interactions
- Concurrent RES‑blocking agents (e.g., colloidal iron) reduce uptake
- High‑dose other radiopharmaceuticals may compete for RES sites
- No significant metabolic drug‑drug interactions
