technetium (99mTc) human albumin
V09GA04
Forms & Strengths
- Kit for the preparation of technetium Tc 99m human serum albumin injection
- Lyophilized powder in multidose vials for radiolabeling with sodium pertechnetate Tc 99m
Adult Dosing
- Blood pool imaging and cardiovascular scanning: 185 to 370 MBq (5 to 10 mCi) IV
- Placental localization: 37 to 111 MBq (1 to 3 mCi) IV
- Lung scintigraphy / protein-losing enteropathy: 37 to 185 MBq (1 to 5 mCi) IV
Pediatric Dosing
- Cardiovascular imaging: 1.5 to 3.7 MBq/kg (0.04 to 0.10 mCi/kg) IV
- Minimum recommended dose: 18.5 MBq (0.5 mCi)
- Adjusted downward based on body weight according to pediatric dosing charts
Indications
- Measurement of cardiac output and blood pool imaging
- Placental localization in suspected placenta previa
- Delineation of heart chambers and great vessels
- Detection of protein-losing enteropathy
Mechanism of Action
- Human serum albumin is radiolabeled with metastable technetium-99m
- Temporarily remains within the intravascular blood pool following intravenous injection
- Allows gamma camera scintigraphy to visualize cardiac chambers, vascular structures, and regional blood volume
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to human serum albumin or any component of the radiopharmaceutical preparation
- Pregnancy, unless the clinical benefit clearly outweighs the potential risk of radiation to the fetus
Adverse Reactions
- Hypersensitivity and anaphylactic reactions (urticaria, chills, nausea, hypotension)
- Injection site reactions
- Fever and flushing
Drug Interactions
- Any agent that alters cardiovascular dynamics or blood volume may affect cardiac pool imaging results
- No specific pharmacodynamic drug-drug interactions known due to tracer quantities administered
