technetium (99mTc) furifosmin
V09GA05
Forms & Strengths
- Kit for the preparation of technetium Tc 99m furifosmin injection
Adult Dosing
- Diagnostic intravenous administration: 370 to 1110 MBq (10 to 30 mCi) depending on the specific imaging protocol and equipment used
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established
Indications
- Radiopharmaceutical diagnostic agent indicated for myocardial perfusion imaging to evaluate coronary artery disease
Mechanism of Action
- Lipophilic cationic technetium-99m complex that passively diffuses into myocardial cells proportional to coronary blood flow and is retained intracellularly via mitochondrial binding
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to technetium Tc 99m furifosmin or any of its components
- Pregnancy and lactation, unless the diagnostic benefit outweighs potential risks
Adverse Reactions
- Generally well-tolerated with a low incidence of adverse effects
- Rare reports of transient headache, flushing, metallic taste, nausea, or injection site discomfort
- Hypersensitivity reactions rarely observed
Drug Interactions
- Drugs that alter myocardial perfusion (e.g., calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers, nitrates, dipyridamole) may affect the diagnostic utility of myocardial imaging
- No specific pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions of clinical significance have been formally established
