rubidium (82Rb) chloride
V09GX04
Forms & Strengths
- Generator-produced radiopharmaceutical
- Rubidium Rb 82 Generator yielding rubidium Rb-82 chloride injection
Adult Dosing
- 10 to 20 mCi (370 to 740 MBq) intravenously per PET scan
- Administered as an infusion at a rate of 10 to 50 mL/min
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established
Indications
- Indicated for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of the myocardium under rest or pharmacologic stress conditions
- Evaluation of regional myocardial perfusion in adult patients with suspected or established coronary artery disease
Mechanism of Action
- Potassium analog taken up by viable myocardial tissue via the Na+/K+-ATPase pump
- Myocardial uptake is proportional to organ blood flow, allowing identification of ischemic and infarcted regions
Contraindications
- None known when used for indicated diagnostic PET imaging
Adverse Reactions
- Generally well-tolerated due to extremely short half-life
- Rare adverse events include flushing, dizziness, altered taste, and transient changes in blood pressure
Drug Interactions
- Drugs that alter myocardial perfusion or affect the Na+/K+-ATPase pump (e.g., inotropes, beta-blockers) may indirectly affect regional uptake
- No direct pharmacokinetic drug-drug interactions documented due to rapid radioactive decay (half-life approx. 75 seconds)
