gallium (68Ga) edotreotide
V09IX09
Forms & Strengths
- Kit for the preparation of gallium Ga 68 edotreotide injection: 50 mcg cold kit vial for radiolabeling
Adult Dosing
- 150 MBq (4.1 mCi) administered as an intravenous injection (range: 110-185 MBq)
- Image acquisition typically begins 40-90 minutes post-injection
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established
Indications
- Localization of somatostatin receptor-positive neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) using positron emission tomography (PET)
Mechanism of Action
- Radioconjugate that binds to somatostatin receptors, predominantly subtype 2 (sst2)
- Gallium-68 decays by positron emission, allowing PET imaging of receptor-expressing tissues
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to gallium Ga 68 edotreotide or any component of the preparation
Adverse Reactions
- Nausea
- Flushing
- Dizziness
- Injection site pain
Drug Interactions
- Somatostatin analogs (SSA) bind to somatostatin receptors and can competitively inhibit binding of gallium Ga 68 edotreotide; imaging should ideally be performed just prior to the next scheduled dose of short-acting SSAs
- Glucocorticoids may downregulate somatostatin receptor expression
