fluoroestradiol (18F)
V09IX11
Forms & Strengths
- Intravenous injection: 111-444 MBq/mL (3-12 mCi/mL) at the time of calibration
Adult Dosing
- Recommended dose: 222 MBq (6 mCi), within a range of 148 to 444 MBq (4 to 12 mCi), administered as a single slow intravenous injection over 1-2 minutes
- Image acquisition: Begin PET imaging 80 minutes (range 60-100 minutes) after administration
Pediatric Dosing
- Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients have not been established
Indications
- Indicated for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of estrogen receptor (ER)-positive lesions as an adjunct to biopsy in patients with recurrent or metastatic breast cancer
Mechanism of Action
- Fluorine 18 (18F) fluoroestradiol is a radiolabeled estrogen analog that binds to the estrogen receptor (ER)
- Enables visualization of ER-expressing tissues throughout the body using PET imaging
Adverse Reactions
- Injection site pain
- Dysgeusia
- Nausea
Drug Interactions
- Estrogen receptor antagonists (e.g., fulvestrant) and selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs) compete for binding sites and can significantly reduce uptake of fluoroestradiol (18F)
- Discontinuation of certain ER-targeting therapies prior to imaging may be required depending on the drug's half-life and clearance
